In Palestine, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is taught at the university level with minimal integration at the school level. The technology curriculum at schools starts to be introduced at the 5th grade to the 12th grade, with only a brief about AI as a definition in the 8th grade. This results in a low level of awareness about it among school students. According to the literature, it is difficult to teach AI at the school level as it is a complex concept with a mixture of many other disciplines that include skills ranging from applied to logical reasoning.

To study the on-ground reality of education about AI at the school level, several focus groups were held by Dr. Mona Demaidi at the end of 2021 with 40 students (57.2% of the participants were male and 42.8% female) between the 5th and 12th grades. The study aimed to assess the awareness of school students about the concept of AI, 42% of students heard about AI. However, the results revealed that students had low awareness and minimal understanding of the practical applications of AI.

Therefore, Artificial Intelligence Ambassadors for Social Good project aims to develop the first Arabic AI for Social Good online platform for school students aged between 14 – 17 in Palestine. The platform aims to spread awareness of AI and its applications via several courses. Interactive online content, including videos and games, will be developed to help students understand how AI contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, students will have hands-on experience on using technology-based AI tools and submit a project. Students will become ambassadors of AI and work in groups to develop a project. They will also learn the concept of mentorship through working with mentors and apply constructive feedback to the idea and project.
